I chatted with local comedian, Jeremy Hall, about his love of comedy and what makes him tick.

Q: Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Q: When did you realize you wanted to be a comedian?

It was when I got clean and sober. I lived in Manhattan for a while, and was addicted to drugs for almost a decade. After I cleaned up, I realized it was my time.

Q: Where does your comedy come from?

It’s self deprecating humor. Of course, I talk about growing up short. Going through sobriety, and what life was like when I wasn’t sober is a big “inspiration.”
Q: Do you get a rush when performing on stage?

Quite the opposite! I’m so focused on stage, then it hits me when I get offstage. It hits me like a brick wall sometimes. I get that rush when I know I’ve had a good performance.
Q: How do you prepare for a show?

I go over everything I want to discuss over and over and over…starting maybe an hour before the show. A lot of comics are the exact opposite. ::laughs::

Q: What is your favorite part of being a part of the DC/Baltimore comic scene?

The guys and girls that are a part of it! Most of us have become really close friends. There’s no real drama..no arguments over bookings, or people suggesting things you should be doing. Supportive all around

Q: What makes YOU laugh?

(pause)

That’s a good question. ::laughs:: Something non-generic. Something with originality..something REAL. When I hear something that ACTUALLY occurred, and it being so funny..you can’t beat it.
