Q&A: Howie Day

I chatted with Howie Day about his life and career.

Q: Talk about your childhood, where you grew up, etc

I grew up in Bangor ME, with dreams of being a musician- a place that’s beautiful, but with a small chance geographically to make a music career.

Q: When did you know you wanted to be a musician?

I saw Dave Matthews play an acoustic show with Tim Reynolds when I was 15, I decided on the career at that point. I’ve wanted to be a musician since I was five.

Q: What is the hardest part of being in the Entertainment industry?

The travel- travel that goes wrong and crossing time zones.

Q: How do you think you’ve grown from your first album to “Lanterns?”

My voice is getting there, and I’m not trying to people please as much… just doing my thing.

Q: What is your favorite song of yours and why?

Always changes. Right now it’s “Anyone” because it was written before the meaning surfaced. Certain songs really come alive on tour, and that’s one of them.

Q: “Collide” has been used in several films and TV shows, such as “Summerland”, “ER”, “Pride & Prejudice”..and the list goes on. How does it feel having one of your songs etched in visual media history?

So cool. Dream come true.

Q: If you could duet with one artist living or dead, who would it be and why?

I think gals and guys make a good duet, so maybe … Stevie Nicks?

Q: Your fans helped fund your CD “Lanterns.” How does it feel knowing your fans had a part in that album?

A real gift, such a cool process and I got to do some really original one of a kind things for them.

Q: Are you excited about your show in Annapolis Tuesday?

Of course! And the food is really good too!

Howie Day headlines Rams Head Annapolis Tuesday.
