Starring: Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, James Corden, Chris Pine, and Johnny Depp.
Synopsis: “Into The Woods” is a modern twist on classic fairy tales, such as Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Jack and The Beanstalk. All of these stories are tied into a story about a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child. They must do as the Evil Witch says, or they will be cursed forever.
The strongest thing here is the cast. Meryl Streep is..well..Meryl Streep. Great performances from James Corden and Anna Kendrick. But the standout for me has to be Emily Blunt. Her best role since “The Devil Wears Prada.” She’s funny at times, gorgeous all the time, and you actually feel for her character in certain points in the film.
The pacing of the film felt VERY uneven. I realize that probably has to do with the plot of the original play, but there were a few times where I REALLY wanted the movie to end. There are only so many times you can hear “Into The Woods” sung, and not want to throw something at the movie screen.
The kids will love it..so will musical fans. That’s about it, however.
