I talked with everyone’s favorite Senator, Isiah Whitlock Jr. from “The Wire!” We chatted this time about his bobblehead, and how he thinks Baltimore can recover from the April unrest.
Q: What has been the response to the original bobble head since it was released?
The response has been much greater than I anticipated. People seem to be really enjoying them. There are tons of pictures out there of people traveling with them, putting it in different situations. It’s been spotted all over the world at this point. David Simon even gave one to President Obama. I’ve heard he keeps it in The Oval Office.
Well sheeeeeeeeet, Clay Davis is FINALLY in the White House.
::laughs:: Exactly!
Q: You recently tweeted out a photo of Dominic West and yourself. How was it seeing him again?
It was great! A friend and I were having lunch in a cafe, and he was walking by. We stopped him on the street. I’ve only seen him once since the show wrapped. It was good to catch up. I owe a lot to him and the writers from “The Wire.” They made me a little bit better.
Q: I hear you’re filming “CHIPS.” What are your thought on movie and TV shows being remade?
I think it’s a good thing to bring back early TV shows in some form. “CHIPS” has such a great script. I’ve been surrounded by a lot of great actors as well. There’s a TON of motorcycles. I don’t ride one, I’d probably break every bone in my body! ::laughs::
Q: You were on Glenn Clark Radio here in Baltimore discussing the unrest that occurred. How do you think the city will pull through?
I think it will now that has everything has calmed down. People have a chance to step back, and take a look at some of the things that have happened. There’s no choice BUT to go forward. At the end of the day, you want to bring everyone together, and try to find out where the problems are. There are LOTS of people in Baltimore who have an intense love for their city, and want it to succeed. I don’t live there, but have spent so much time there…I fall into that category. It’s one of the most important and historic cities in America. It will heal with time.
Q: How did it feel coming back with some of the cast and supporting the City through one of its hardest times?
It was great seeing everyone. They wanted to bring as many people back to do something for a stressful time. We all felt like we owed that to the city. We tried to do whatever we could to have a little peace, and bring things together. I felt like I hadn’t left! ::laughs::
Q: Are you excited about the Red White and Blue release of your bobble head?
The “Red, White, and Blue” edition will begin shipping in December just in time for the holidays! The first edition won’t be back once it’s sold out. If you’re a collector, you can have both to show off to your friends and play with side by side.
Q: Would Clay Davis make a good president?
Of course. He’s the man of the people. He would be the candidate with two chickens in every pot, so to speak.
