I chatted with singer songwriter, Christina Holmes, about her music and touring with Eve 6.
Q: Where did you grow up?
I grew up in New Jersey in a town called Ho-Ho-Kus.
Q: When did you know you wanted to be a musician?
I’ve known my entire life but it took me until I was about 18 to share it with anyone. Before that I would just play to myself in my bedroom.
Q: Favorite type of music to listen to? Favorite artists?
If I had to pick genres, my favorites would be Reggae and Hip Hop. But I’m a big fan of music with a message so I will really listen to anything that shows the conscious side of an artist. I’m a big fan of Nakho and Medicine for the People, Cas Haley, Soja, and Trevor Hall, who I actually had the opportunity to go on tour with.
Q: What do you do to prepare for your shows?
I really just relax. I’ll write my set list and tune my guitar but other than that, nothing too special. I’m always singing so I never really have to warm up my voice.
Q: What has it been like touring with Eve 6?
It’s been really amazing. I’m super blessed to be able to share the stage with them. They are some of the most genuine hard working artists I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
Q: What is your favorite song you’ve written and why?
That’s a really hard question… But I would have to say one of my favorites is, Message For The People because it truly shows how I feel about the world today and what I think we can do to make it better.
Q: What is the hardest part of the music industry in your opinion?
The hardest part of the music industry is trying to get yourself heard. Especially for an up and coming artist, people in the music industry don’t always take you seriously. Fortunately, I have been able to slowly but surely get myself and my message heard. Social media and performing have helped create my ever growing fan base. My live performance, as I’ve been told, helps captivate even the biggest skeptic. So I’ve learned to play every chance I get, even if that means busking on the street.
Q: Are you excited about your show here in Baltimore this week?
Well I’ve never played in Baltimore but I’ve played in Annapolis and Ocean City. I’m super excited for this show because the last two times I played in Maryland the crowd showed mad love! I’m expecting nothing less than an awesome show at Baltimore Sound Stage!
Christina opens for Eve 6 this Sunday at Baltimore Soundstage!
