Director: Alessandra Lacorazza
Starring: René “Residente” Pérez Joglar, Leslie Grace, Emma Ramos,
Synopsis: Siblings Violeta and Eva live in California with their mother, but every summer they travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to spend time with their loving but unpredictable father, Vicente (René “Residente” Pérez Joglar). Over the course of four formative summers that span adolescence to early adulthood, Violeta and Eva learn to appreciate their father as a person, his flaws and limitations inseparable from his passion and tenderness.
Review: What an engaging film. The story is told over a number of summers (hence the title). It shows the struggles and joy of Vicente and his daughters Violeta and Eva.
René “Residente” Pérez Joglar, who plays Vicente, is spectacular. There are scenes where you literally hate his character. And others where you’re almost weeping. A tell tale sign of a great actor.
I loved the feel of the film. The production design, costumes, etc. The cinematography is excellent as well. It felt authentic.
In the end, Vicente is incredibly flawed. But you can tell he absolutely adores his daughters. The movie flows almost like a song. A song about love, despair, and hope.
