I talked to Howi from Ballyhoo! , about their music and upcoming tour.

Q: How did Ballyhoo! form?
My brother Donald and I started the band in our mom’s basement in 1995. We loved music, and always wanted to start our own band.

Q: What is your favorite part of performing live?

My favorite part is playing in front of a crowd of people that are stoked. I love seeing them sing along to our tunes. I love feeling their energy as the show progresses.

Q: Do you have any musical influences?

Oh yeah. Green Day, for sure. 311. There’s so many to list, really.

Q: How did it feel winning a Maryland Music Award?

It was very cool and very unexpected. We’ve been out there for a while, and it’s sick that we got that sort of recognition.

Q: Are you excited to go out on the road with Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake?

Oh yeah, man! We’ve looked up to them since we were growing up. So rad to have the opportunity to go out there and jam with them. Should be a great time!
