broadcasts regional Emmy® award ceremony June 30

OWINGS MILLS, MD –  A three-hour telecast of the Emmy® Awards ceremony of the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Television Academy of Arts and Sciences will air on Maryland Public Television on Tuesday, June 30 from 8 pm until 11 pm on MPT2, the station’s secondary channel.

The awards will be re-broadcast on MPT-HD, the station’s main channel, on Wednesday, July 1 at midnight. In the chapter’s 57th Emmy Awards, Maryland Public Television earned 17 nominations.  The awards gala takes place June 27 in Bethesda, MD.​

WYPR and WEAA JOIN FORCES

 

Stations will share resources as they cover and produce news around the events

surrounding the death of Freddie Gray

 

(BALTIMORE) – May 4, 2015 – Baltimore’s public radio stations WYPR 88.1 FM and WEAA 88.9 FM announced today a collaboration in which the stations will share news resources and coverage assignments that may allow both stations to cover and produce news content relating to events surrounding the death of Freddie Gray.

WYPR and WEAA will join forces to mutually plan coverage of the many angles and aftermath of daily occurrences incidental and directly related to Baltimore’s continued response and reaction to this event. Stories related to the death of Freddie Gray produced by each station will be available to each station with joint attribution.

 

“This is unity for a greater cause, one that gets defined and redefined every single day here in Baltimore,” said WEAA General Manager Michele Williams. “To deploy our resources collectively to inform the community certainly lives up to our public radio mission as a community asset.”

 

News directors Joel McCord from WYPR and Carla Wills from WEAA will serve as contacts for the collaboration. Together they will assign reporters to coordinate the workload of story development and reporting stories.

“This collaboration affords us the opportunity to better serve the Baltimore community at a time when they are counting on up-to-the-minute and in-depth coverage,” said WYPR General Manager Tony Brandon.

 

WEAA 88.9, located on the historic campus of Morgan State University, is an NPR-member station. MPT airs Fighting Cancer: Q&A as local tie

to Ken Burns national documentary series

OWINGS MILLS, MD – In conjunction with the national PBS telecast of the new Ken Burns documentary, Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies, Maryland Public Television will broadcast a one-hour local special, Fighting Cancer: Q&A, to highlight important local research and explore local challenges to and support for cancer treatment.  The MPT program airs Wednesday, April 1, at 8 pm.

 

Fighting Cancer: Q&A,  moderated by MPT’s Carolyn Black-Sotir, features the following guests:

·       Drs. Stuart Martin and Gregory Carey, researchers, University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center

·       Dr. Robert Brookland, chair, Department of Radiation Oncology,  Greater Baltimore Medical Center, member of national board of American Cancer Society

·       Stacey Huber, patient navigator, Mercy Medical Center

·       Maria Dennis, on-air personality, Radio MIX 106.5, cancer survivor

·       Ashley Varner, psychosocial oncology specialist, Anne Arundel Medical Center
