Q&A: Griffin House

griffinhouse

I chatted with musician Griffin House about his upcoming gig in Annapolis.

Q: Where did you grow up?

Springfield Ohio

Q: I read that you turned down a golf scholarship to pursue music. When did you know you wanted to be a musician?

Probably not until my last year in college. I started playing shows and made a CD and sold it in my classes at school. One of my poetry professors told me he thought I should try music instead of being a poetry prof. There are more and more people playing music and recording now, but at the time trying to do what I do for a living seemed far fetched if not a bit radical.

Q: What is your favorite song that you’ve written and why?

My favorite song is probably “Judas” because Ive never heard another lyric like it. Its a simple song but deals with something not so simple.

Q: What is your song “Yesterday Lies” about?

Its about remembering the past differently than it actually was.

Q: Your songs have appeared in “Rescue Me”, “Everwood”, “One Tree Hill” and “Brothers & Sisters.” How does it feel having your songs be a part of visual media history?
Having songs in film and tv is great. Music always seems to sound even better in TV. Hoping they put one in a blockbuster someday so I can take my girls to the movies and we can hear it on the big screen. A guy can dream 🙂

Q: Who inspires you?

My wife, my kids, kindness, nature, selflessness, unconditional love, music that gives you goosebumps, Paris

Q: What do your fans mean to you?

My fans are never mean to me. Oh wait I read that wrong 🙂 I’m always so thankful people come to see me play. I don’t even think of them as fans, I think of the audience as people who really want to be there because they must have a unique connection with the songs and I always try to make sure we have fun together and keep it light hearted and at the same time play the songs that might run deep for us. I find a lot of genuine people in the audience and after the shows talking with them

Q: Are you excited about your show here in Annapolis?

Cant wait! Love Rams Head and walking around beautiful Annapolis before the show
