Cannons Bring Dreamy Synth-Pop Magic to Baltimore’s Nevermore Hall

Cannons brought their signature blend of dreamy synth-pop, hypnotic rhythms, and irresistible cool to Baltimore’s Nevermore Hall, delivering the kind of concert that makes you want to lose yourself in the music and forget about everything outside the venue. Front-woman Michelle Joy’s smooth, alluring vocals were a perfect match for the group’s shimmering instrumentation, giving the performance an effortless sense of sophistication.

Two standout songs were “Heartbeat Highway” and “Love On The Ground,” both of which highlighted the band’s ability to combine infectious melodies with an irresistible groove. “Heartbeat Highway” was my favorite; its pulsing rhythm and glossy synths creating a sense of forward momentum that made it difficult to stand still. The song captures the excitement of being swept up in a feeling you cannot quite explain (or how about love?) and its live performance gave that energy an extra jolt.

Meanwhile, “Love On The Ground” offered another highlight, pairing Cannons’ signature atmospheric sound with a romantic, sexy, slightly bittersweet mood. There is something wonderfully intoxicating about the band’s ability to make a song feel simultaneously euphoric and melancholy, and this track was a reminder of just how effectively they balance those contrasting emotions.”

Another highlight was the sultry “Fire For You.” To my surprise, the song was used in “Spider Man: Brand New Day.” When I heard it in the theater, I smiled, because I knew this was one stepping stone to them becoming superstars. This and “Heartbeat Highway” got the biggest fan reaction and rightfully so.

If you get the chance to ever see Cannons live, PLEASE do it. You won’t stop smiling. swaying and dancing until you leave the venue.
