I recently had the honor of speaking with the very talented Taylor Dayne. We chatted about staying power in the music industry, and her career.

Q: You’ve had hits in the 80’s, 90’s, and the 2000’s. What does it take to have longevity in the music business?

The music business is a treacherous place. Haha! Yup! I read it somewhere. I’ve been singing since I was four years old. I knew then that I wanted to be a star. I knew I was born to sing. When you have a gift in life, and to feel that push and desire, at such a young age, it’s a blessing. I’ve had many bumps and bruises over 26 years since the release of “Tell It To My Heart.” I’ve experienced many more things in life, and now I am grateful I find new inspiration to continue.

Q: Who inspires you?

I’m inspired by my fans. By my last note…the absolute feeling of exhaustion and breathlessness gets me high..looking at the fans knowing they feel it too!

Q: What is your favorite song to perform?

“Shelter” and “Love Will Lead You Back”

Q: What is your favorite part of performing live?

The fans, and having that connection with them.

Q: Do you prefer performing for big crowds, or in more intimate settings?

I can perform in the largest, or smallest venue. But it’s all about that connection with the audience. Getting them through the wave of the show.

Q: What are the pros and cons of going on tour?

Cons: every plane, train, bus, lobby…

Q: How do you juggle being a mom and having a singing career?

That’s an ongoing process, that has its highs and low. During the summer months, if I’m touring back east where all my family and friends are, they kids will come and bounce around. Otherwise, I’m on the road, away, while they’re in school.
